  • There are sizeable number of people who don't like all kinds of things but I don't make it a habit of pointing it out when I see someone with those things permanently etched onto their skin.

  • I know it's not what you're asking but I think Okuda did the original design

  • lmao why on Earth would you phrase it like that?!?! Just say nice tattoo!

  • That's wild I didn't know that!

  • When I tried it I got the feeling it's more for people looking to backup/archive entire YouTube channels than those (such as myself) basically just having what is functionally an RSS feed of most recent videos released this week (for example).

But like I said, it's absolutely great at what it does I just found it waaaay too complicated than the simple "use jellyfin as a YouTube app replacement" I was looking for.

  • Absolutely. The interesting thing to me was the lack of institutional knowledge remaining in the US. For example, finding a machinist based in the US was one of his biggest challenges as most of them have retired. I think he was only able to locate one still in operation that could make the parts he needed.

  • tubearchivist is great but probably overkill for someone just looking to subscribe and watch with Plex/Jellyfin instead of the YouTube app.

  • I haven't watched this video yet but I heard him talking about this project on a podcast recently and it was really interesting. It's basically impossible to manufacture something simple (and increasingly often, complex things too) in the US at a competitive price. Yes, he made a "better" grill scrubber completely in the USA, but it costs $60. Yes, it's totally BIFL but the market for people willing to pay that is probably not sustainable for anyone without the "free" marketing of a popular YouTube channel.

  • I agree, but the particular Maquis we saw tended to be reactionary and narrow minded. I think it could have been presented as a much better grey area situation like in Journey's End.

  • I always felt like they did a pretty poor job of making the audience feel any significant level of sympathy for the Maquis (assuming that was the goal).

  • AudiobookShelf is great. One of the most polished self hosted apps out there and has a lot of great features that are lesser known (like converting to m4a)

  • I love that someone asked you to leave them alone, you were like "actually no means yes", and you view violating consent as "not taking it up the ass".

  • Sir this is a website

  • There's a contingent of threadiverse users who interpret "anti censorship" to mean "all speech should be permitted, even against other's consent" and view any stifling of that to be immoral.

My take is that if platforms permit the loudest voices to overwhelm others, you just have censorship of a different flavor. Piefed is taking an interesting approach to that problem and I think it's interesting to watch!

  • This is just more "if a company isn't growing faster than the S&P500 it's literally dying" logic.

I have no love for Zuck or Meta but if reality means anything then their stock price is still ridiculously inflated.

  • True actually it can get quite hectic 😅

  • The biggest problem with a censorship proof decentralized social media platform is that the instances without moderation inevitably attract the sorts of people that get banned from everywhere else.

  • Pardon my ignorance but isn't that exactly what Inoreader and Feedly do?

Democrats campaigning on "affordability" are cutting back on their anti-oil rhetoric but they should be focusing on removing the red tape surrounding solar, which could be much cheaper!
