The same gamers that are spending their time complaining about GTAVI having no disc also helped it beat pre-sales records. Rock Star probably knew this would be the case (even if people complained about something they don't really care about it) because as they report, 80-95% of the sales of GTAV over the last few years have been digital sales.

I'm saying I think discs are just becoming a thing of the past, like VHS and cassette tapes. It's kind of crazy and unhinged to act like these companies haven't done the market research and seen that most people make mainly digital media purchases these days.
