  • I made an error in my original post. Please see the edit I made.

But I think I’m understanding a bit! I need to literally create a file named “/etc/radicale/config”. Then after that I need to copy/paste the configuration file/command line into said folder. Once I do that then I should be able to move onto authentication and then addresses.

  • Selfhosted @lemmy.world

First Time Self Hoster- Need help with Radicale

  • Sheesh, that sounds like a Black Mirror episode. I know a majority of my info/data now is most likely compromised, but moving forward I can make a difference. Also, I can prep these tools for the young ones in my family who aren’t on the internet yet.

  • I definitely need some advice for self hosting! I literally have no idea what I’m doing. I have a raspberry pi and another user said that may be enough to get started.

Could you share some videos or links or blogs that explain how to get started?

  • Good info. I tried Cryptpad and I didn’t like it but I forgot why, I added it to my list to check out again!

I’m an iPhone user….for now. Once I get more knowledgeable the plan is to get a pixel and run with Linux!

Once I do start using a VPN it will be mullvad. I’ve seen some of their ads and their pretty funny.

EDIT: I never thought about privacy when it comes to podcasts… 🤔. I’ll check out that app you suggested.

  • Ya, the lack of resl time driving data is a bummer. But if that’s something I have to give up for a bit more privacy i will definitely use it for drives where I don’t mind being late. But if magic earth or something else had the same level of privacy with real time traffic I may choose that one.

  • I hear ya with the 10 years thing. But tbh, you could say that about any company that touts privacy.

I do love the self hosting thing. Another user mentioned that as well. Hetzner is a good back up. Do you have any links that help someone do it by themselves ?

  • Im enjoying the set up and tweaking of OSM. What I don’t like so far is the verbal directions. Sometimes the app will tell me to take a right/left when actually I should be going straight. But, to be fair, I haven’t played with it long enough to give it its fair shot.

I’ll look into libre. I was hoping for an app, but I can definitely make a browser work.

The photo app would be storage for photos. Someone else mentioned self hosting using AI. I imagine the process is similar for self hosting for something like nextxloud. Do you have a video or blog that would ELI5?

  • Privacy @lemmy.ml

Yo yo! Help me choose some better private services!
