Many are unaware of this fact
  • Marx was right about the luddites. The first phase of the development of working clas consciousness is destroying the machines that impoverish the workers. It is not the last phase.

  • So much for "progress"
  • More than 50% of classes in universities are now taught by poorly paid adjuncts with no benefits who can have their classes cut up to the day before classes start. It's insane what the MBAs have done to higher education.

  • The more things change
  • In the US this is true in academic philosophy and probably the humanities more generally. Women get tenure track positions with, on average, half the number of publications that men have. Most tenured professors are men, but it's slowly changing as the strong preference for women at the junior levels percolates upward. Within the next twenty or thirty years we'll need to address the bias against men in junior positions or we're going to end up with the same problem but in reverse.

  • Kamala Harris and Liz Cheney
  • You shouldn't assume that everyone who criticizes Kamala Harris' actions during the campaign supported Trump or didn't vote. That'd make you just as tribal and reactive as Trump supporters.

  • Kamala Harris and Liz Cheney
  • Campaigning with the daughter of a war criminal was not a good look, even if it didn't move Kamala right on any actual policy. It's perfectly reasonable to look askance at me if I'm out there doing campaign stops with Uday Hussein, even if I still support a $15 minimum wage.

  • ‘What a circus’: eligible US voters on why they didn’t vote in the 2024 presidential election
  • While various previous Democratic voters said they had abstained this time due to the Harris campaign’s stance on Israel or for other policy reasons, a number of people in this camp said they would have voted for the vice-president had they lived in a swing state.

In a group of absolute morons, this is the only rational stance. It makes sense not to vote if your vote doesn't matter and by doing so you're only symbolically supporting a genocide. This is of course very different from voting for Trump because of Gaza (completely irrational) or abstaining in a swing state because of Gaza.

  • ‘What a circus’: eligible US voters on why they didn’t vote in the 2024 presidential election
  • You're ignoring the fact that this person clearly would have voted for Harris if they were in a swing state. Harris did not lose Illinois and this person got to avoid getting blood on their hands via voting for perpetuation of genocide. That sounds far more ethical and rational than just knee jerk voting no matter what.

  • The People Cheering the UnitedHealthcare CEO Shooting
  • Anger is often an indication of one's moral compass. If you're not angry at the tens of thousands who die because of a lack of health insurance, or because of illegitimate denials of their health care, something is very wrong with you. This man was a monster cut from the same cloth as any murderer or terrorist.
