  Of course not. There's also the Chinese, Cuban, or North Korean autocracy models of implementation to choose from.
  
  There are also other systems to choose from than just full on capitalism and full on communism… (though I guess that’s what you meant)
  A socialist democracy with a well-regulated market has worked really well for the Nordic countries, for example!
- The Soviet union was as communist as Nazi Germany was socialist.
- I was a kid when USSR fell apart, and it was good, but I was a kid, so in many cases I didn't know better or my parents protected me from the bad things in our life. Still, remembering some details, now I understand how fucked up the system were. From the top of the head:
  choosing shoes for school: it was a noticeable event, and we were not only trying them on for the size, but also quality was so shitty, that we had to choose the best left and right from several pairs.
  mango, avocado, and most other "interesting" fruits didn't exist.
  home appliances: you have a shitty washing machine. Microwaves, dishwashers, etc, didn't exist. Hand-crank meat grinder is the most vivid memory and a nostalgic item.
  So, generally, plan economy fucked up the choice and the quality of items, and some stuff wasn't available at all (if you are not an "important person" with access to special stores, or people travelling abroad. I'm not saying that not knowing what "kiwi" is until mid-90s was a big problem, but it shows how bland and uncomfortable your daily life could be.
