Alternative perspective: Imagine being lifted up, being able to see the stars for the first time. The absolute wonderment of it all. Only to be put back down, never to be able to see them again. Almost seems cruel

This was by far and large the best throwaway gag that I'm sure many people missed in "Children of Men". There's a shot near the beginning in the dystopian city and there's a pig shaped balloon floating in the sky. I'm not sure how many people caught it when the saw the movie.
