I think you got short changed on that cord. 4'x4'x8' is a cord of wood, and that looks like far less that
It’s in about a 10’ space and doesn’t include some logs I split for kindling
Maybe he is only showing part of the good stuff for the sake of opsec.
Also that
Face cord is a much more common measure for firewood in many locales.
I hope that’s a storage area and not the house. Word of caution don’t stack wood close to the house as it invites bugs to the home. (Termites and carpenter ants especially.)
You may have done it right, but I’d rather warn and help then just move on.
I appreciate the warning, and learned that lesson a couple years ago.
This is on a concrete pad that used to have a hot tub, surrounded by pressure treated wood and about 20’ from the house, and it was okay last year.
Glad to hear you’ve got it in a good spot. Sorry you did have to learn that lesson the hard way.
Oh man, reading stuff like that I can't appreciate enough that my house, the most expensive thing I have or will spend money on in my entire life isn't made of a material that would succumb to a few months of unchecked exposure to a handful of insects.
Seriously. The possibility alone would leave me terribly nervous.
There are insects that burrow into concrete type materials too. If you have drywall or wood trim or food in your house, there’s a critter that can come visit you. Nature gonna nature. We’re all worm food eventually.
I got a logging truck load last year and cut it all to size and split it all over the winter.
Way better then a gym membership.
I wish I could do this every day. I used to have about five acres to maintain, along with pigs and chickens, and I was in the best health of my life, physically and mentally.
Gyms don’t give me the satisfaction of a grueling task that can be completed.
Let's all hope they'll be there for you tomorrow.
Ooo, ominous
Hey, good job!
How did you split them? By hand or did you use a splitter?
It was mostly split when I got it, but I split a few of the smaller, drier logs for kindling by hand.
I’ve got this great maul that’s basically a solid steel wedge welded to the end of a driveshaft.
Ah, nice. A splitter fit for a caveman (or your avatar, I suppose).
That looks like a face cord aka 1/3 of a cord.
A cord is 4 ft tall, 8 ft wide, and 4 ft deep.
This is about 4.5’ tall, 3’ wide, and 8’ long with a slope out to 10’, minus five or six logs I split down for kindling.
Maybe a bit less than a cord but I neglected a banana for scale.
Thank you for the unsolicited pictures of your wood.
