A woman pleaded guilty to setting up a cross-burning hoax to gain sympathy points for Mayor Yemi Mobolade.
Supporters flocked toward Yemi Mobolade, Colorado Springs’ first Black mayor, when he was in the running following what appeared to be a serious racial threat. However, the threat in question may have been less of a threat and more of a cruel campaign strategy, police say.
His Wikipedia page lists his political affiliation as "independent" and he beat a Republican in the runoff.
However, his dad worked for an oil company and his whole page is full of stuff about how super-religious he is. Plus, he beat a Republican in the runoff, in a super-conservative city that had only ever elected Republican mayors up to that point. Frankly, it's pretty clear which way he leans, and it ain't Democrat.
So yeah, you're right: Conservatives are going to eat this story up, and they're going to be just as dishonest about it as usual.
Reminds me of the "protests" outside of E3 when the game Dantes Inferno was shown in 2010. EA thought it would be a great idea to just, hire a bunch of people to take a protest that played into the games themes. So they'd each be holding stuff about the 7 sins, layers of hell. All that shit. It was not a good strategy. Faking shit to win never is, even if it works once, it means it likely won't ever again.
