U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused Democratic Senator Adam Schiff of committing mortgage fraud, claiming the lawmaker should be "brought to justice"- a statement Schiff condemned as political persecution and denies any wrongdoing.
So, I've learned over the years to pay attention to shit Trump says like this. When he comes out of left field with things that are this oddly specific, it means he got the info from somewhere. A perfect example was when he started ranting about Fani Willis and her "boyfriend". We all thought it was nonsense, but there turned out to be a story behind it that had legs. More competent people than Trump pushed that forward, though, just long enough to delay consequences for Trump.
However, Schiff seems to know what he is doing, and has enough money (and integrity) that I don't believe he would misrepresent his residency just to save money on taxes: he would be honest and just pay up. So, where is Trump getting this "hot tip"?
I think Kash Patel is using the FBI to dig up "dirt" on Democrats. And not even bad stuff: he is just actively investigating all of Trump's perceived enemies to see what charges might stick in court, even if they are made up. Schiff owns multiple houses, so why not try to spin that into something bad?
Basically, look up every bad thing that Republicans accused Biden of doing in Jim Jordan's "Weaponization of Government" committee, and Republicans are doing that right now. But Trump can't keep this shit secret; he has to blab about it and that's the only way we will know it is happening.

Peter: ... because of this decision, your private info is functionally within the control of the White House, right? Which is something that wasn't true before. Access to enough information that you can imagine not just is there potential for, like, mass surveillance here outside of the scope of, like, the NSA and the FBI but, like, political retribution, right? They have, like, a roadmap for whatever authoritarian shit they want to do. It's just like it greases the wheels for authoritarianism in so many different conceivable ways that it's hard to list them off. But I mean, the basic bottom line here is the Supreme Court just handed Donald Trump a list of every single person in the country, how much money they've ever made, where they've lived, some of their medical histories.
Josie: Mm-hmm. Their connections, their family members, their former roommates, their educational history.
Peter: Their social networks to some degree.
Josie: Mm-hmm.
Peter: Who have you lived with? Who have they lived with, right? It's wild to think about what could be done by the administration if they really wanted to put this data to, you know, quote-unquote "good use."
Josie: I feel like the scariest part is almost the bank account information. It's like you don't—like, this is just basically pretext to cut you off from any kind of source of money you have. It's just—it just essentially, like, gives them power to ruin your life like that very easily, very efficiently.
Wasn't there a whole thing about the lawmakers not being allowed to sleep in their office in D.C. anymore which made it so less wealthy politicians would struggle to be able to afford to rent a place in D.C. until they started having money actually roll in. It would make sense that the politicians either rent or own a place near D.C. if they have to work there and can't stay in their offices. If the property was owned in say Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Alaska, or some other state that doesn't have income taxes and was claiming that as his primary residence I could understand why it could be cause for alarm, but nope. The place he lives and represents... And the place he works from to represent them.
The mortgage fraud accusation itself is a paperwork violation. There's nothing preventing someone from owning multiple houses, but lenders and insurers need to know which residence is the one the person spends the most time at. However, the easy way out of it is to simply be transparent with all your banks. That means you might pay a little more on loans and insurance on the second house, but so what? If you can buy a second house at all, you can afford it.
I think Trump zeroed on on this (among all the dirt Kash Patel is digging up) because it mirrors his own NY State charges. His organization was "convicted" by the state of lying on its loan applications to banks by overvaluing its properties. He can believe that Schiff lied on these loan applications because it's something he would do. Accusing Schiff of this, however falsely the accusation is, also justifies in his mind that he was "unfairly" persecuted for what he did because "everyone does it!"
So the assumption would be that he listed both properties as a primary address to get a lower interest rate on the loan. (As clearly he couldn't lie about the value, being that the bank giving him the loan would own the property essentially). I mean it should be pretty easy to clear up if he didn't do it. And since Trump made the comments publicly, I can't imagine it to be hard for a court to consider it defamation. If he did do it, then welp he's dumb for doing so.
It's also possible that he listed his California residence as primary when he bought that, since that was the truth. Then, when he bought his DC house, he realized that it would be more beneficial to him to "change" his primary residence, so did so. He may or may not have been required to go back to his CA house lender and tell them about it, or his wife may have legitimately still listed the CA house as her primary residence since she may legitimately stay there more often. Schiff may have done everything properly, but Kash Patel can cherry-pick things that were done properly to make it appear improper to people who arent paying attention.
